Over the last few years I've had periods where this game will run and periods where it will not. Currently, I get to the Total wars launcher, hit play, the game tries to launch and then it immediately crashes. I've gone through a guide listed about fixing crashes but none of the steps worked. I'm out of ideas currently. I have the same problem.

Choose a mod (preferably one that has just one installer & maybe a patch rather than one of the super-convoluted ones). Paste the above address in your address bar. Find this folder: "Total War Medieval 1 Gold". Right-click on it, press copy. Then click next it & make a folder called "Mod"; copy the directory into it.
