I don't know about how to find them for the first time aside from waiting on verdant brink checking LFG for all hot an pof maps, BUT ONCE YOU FIND One, be sure to add the commander and set a nickname for it like "HP train commander" so when he's online u can check if he's doing hp train again.
The easiest way to get a lot of hero points quickly is to join a hero point train in one of the expansion maps. Each expansion hero challenge awards 10 hero points, compared to only 1 from the core Tyria maps. Many commanders lead scheduled trains, especially on weekends. Look in the LFG tab for an active train.
Defend the golem generators from the Inquest. Defeat Chief Cipactli to pacify the hylek and free Fixx. Break the ooze projection and slay oozes to fill the PR&T ooze sludge reservoir. Return the toxic oozes to the storage tanks inside PR&T Esoterics. Defeat the crazy Inquest researcher and her crazed animal minions.
Apart from these, there's 7 channels in Verdant Brink, as well as 1 easy veteran fight. Auric Basin has 4 simple ones, Tangled Depths as well. Dragon's Stand's 7 are all easy to do after the meta. That's 230 Hero Points easily accessible without need for a group (unless you count the Dragon's Stand meta as a hero point train).
